There was a total absence of distinction between people , plants , and animals . Love for , and affinity for animals was likened to that of Saint Francis of Assisi . Ramana considered every living creature as equal . Those who came deserved an equal share to the land and resources of Ramana Ashrama . Ramana often mentioned that :

" This was their territory all along , and we humans have come and occupied it . If they could speak , they would claim their rights as well . "
